Bound Latency explores the domain of human relationships and emotional distance. Through interactive instability, the piece examines how distance, both physical and emotional, shapes perception, connection, and the visibility of marginalized bodies. It reflects on the evolving interface between presence and absence, intimacy and alienation, human and machine; continuing my broader exploration of how technological systems mediate the evolving human condition. This interactive video installation portrays a mother and child with disabilities, exploring intimacy, absence, and perception. The image responds to the viewers physical distance, as the audience moves farther away, the portrait becomes increasingly disrupted and unstable. This visual distortion mirrors the emotional and relational distance left by an absent father figure. Through this shifting interaction, the work invites reflection on how proximity and absence shape family bonds, visibility, and the way we perceive those who are often unseen or misunderstood. Built using Isadora and an Ultrasonic senor. The video display responds, reacts to the viewers physical distance in front of the screen, this encourages micro leaning and awareness of the impact of proximity on relationships and responsibilities.
